Family Medicine is a specialty area of medicine that treats a wide

relationship with the patient viewed in the context of the
A family physician provides primary care. They treat acute and
chronic illnesses and provide preventive care and health education
for all ages and both sexes. Some of our family physicians also
deliver babies and provide obstetric services.
This care is based on knowledge of the patient in the context of
the family and the community, emphasizing disease prevention and
health promotion. When subspecialty care is indicated, the family
physician refers the patient to other specialists or caregivers but
remains the coordinator of the patient's health care.
Rockwood has a growing number of family medicine physicians
working with individuals and families from throughout our region.
Each of our locations has one or more female providers for women
and families seeking a female health care provider.
