Basketball

In order to play your best game, it is imperative that you are in great shape. Our sport-specific basketball conditioning program is based on the same training techniques used by NBA players today. Our Director of Sports Performance, Tommy Boyer-Kendrick, was a strength and conditioning coach with the Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns during his coaching career. The same fundamental training techniques that he used to train SHAQ, Shawn Marion and Stephon Marbury are part of your training. It doesn't matter what level you are at in the game, we have a program that will increase your speed, agility, explosive power, reaction, balance, strength and stamina. In order to customize your training program to fit your needs and goals, our staff will analyze your movement and performance in strength, speed, power, balance and agility. Video analysis (Dartfish) is used to capture the athletes' technique and mechanics. This is an invaluable tool we frequently use for coaching our athletes. There is a lot of learning in the first few weeks of training for most athletes, mostly due to the fact that we are teaching technique. But then the workout intensity rises with each training session, eventually leaving you wiped out from a day's workout. It is an exhilarating experience, one that makes you a better, tougher athlete. Football

Football is a violent, combative game. It takes tremendous physical strength and stamina to endure the hits and collisions on the gridiron. At Rockwood, we will condition you to endure the intense demands of the sport. Our training program is designed to help you improve your speed, power, agility, explosiveness, strength, balance, coordination and reactive abilities on the field. Our new Director, Tommy Boyer-Kendrick has trained over 100 NFL players and hundreds of college Division-I football players. Currently, he directs the training for the Spokane Shock, 2010 AFL Champions. With almost twenty years as a professional coach, Tommy brings knowledge and expertise that is unmatched by any other training program in the Spokane area.

Baseball

Dartfish

Dartfish Video Motion Analysis

Dartfish is a state of the art computer program that allows us to analyze video-recorded sport movement. While being able to slow down the movement frame by frame, we can analyze and break down each athletic movement to help the athlete better their abilities pertaining to their sport:

  • Shaving time off of your 100 meter sprint
  • Jumping higher by incorporating your power muscles better
  • Perfecting your clean to become more explosive
  • Breaking down your throwing motion to be more consistent and throw harder
  • Become more fundamentally sound so you are less prone to injury

Stromotion - Allows us to see from beginning to end how your athletic movement looks.

Simulcam - We can superimpose you with yourself at a later time or with a competitor to compare athletic movements.

Analyzer - We can even break down what angles you have as you work out or see what your angle is riding on your bike to increase your performance.

We can also compose videos of you with Dartfish to show to scouts or college coaches as you prepare with us to reach that next level. Dartfish also allows us to use this great program to help show our clients what their body is doing to give them a third learning tool to use, besides hearing feedback from us, and feeling themselves go through the motion. This gives us the tool to create the best learning environment.

Golf

Taking a few strokes off your game feels great, and your physical ability has a lot to do with what happens during the golf swing. Our specialized program is focused on facilitating improvement in the mobility, strength and balance of your body in order to give you greater distance and control in your game.

We are not golf instructors or swing coaches. Our program is based on the principles taught at the Titleist Performance Institute ™ (TPI). Having developed the most professional, scientific model for training, TPI is the world leader in golf conditioning. And it's not just good for your golf game, it is a great workout!

The process begins with an individual assessment and evaluation. This allows us to diagnose any issues with your mobility, flexibility, muscular strength/weakness or imbalance, coordination and balance. We utilize video analysis (Dartfish) during this evaluation in order to coach and teach our golfers proper mechanics. By having you perform functional exercises, as well as your golf swing, we can better design your customized workout program.

We also work directly with golf professionals in the greater Spokane area. By working directly with the swing coach, this allows us to provide you with the ultimate experience. You spend time working on your swing, and also time on the physical conditioning part of the equation. This is the key to gaining the competitive edge.

Softball

At Rockwood, we have specially designed programs for our softball players, both slow and fast pitch. Whether you play competitively or in co-ed leagues, this is the place for you. Our professional trainers will evaluate and assess your fundamental skills and see what needs improvement in order to give you what you crave, success on the field. We work with all ages, from beginners to high-school competition to the co-ed recreational leagues.

From the crack of the bat to the pop of the glove, improve your softball game and take it to the next level by developing a fundamentally sound body capable of exploding and reacting quicker to the next play. Softball is a game based on strong fundamentals. Once the ball is in play, there is no time to think. You must react. Tennis

The physical demands of Tennis are great, and your physical conditioning is a big part of your success on the court. At Rockwood, we offer a specialized program that is designed based on the needs of every individual player. Maybe you play in a women's league, or senior league? As a Tennis player you need strong development in many areas; speed, strength, agility, balance, coordination and flexibility. Tennis is, all-around, a very athletic sport, so we provide you with a very athletic workout. Plyometric exercises for power, functional and core training, stabilization skills, and flexibility (the always under-appreciated aspect). Our training staff has extensive experience working with Tennis players of all ages and skill levels. Although each person is different, every one of the players in our program has seen tremendous improvement.

Volleyball Strength and Conditioning

Physical conditioning for volleyball is much more than just jump training; it is speed, quickness, agility, shoulder strength, arm velocity, and more. Rockwood has developed the most advanced volleyball training program offered in the greater Spokane area. Some of the regions best players have trained with us and have achieved incredible results. Soccer

Explosive speed, great footwork, agility, coordination, strength and endurance are just some of the essential attributes of the soccer player. At Rockwood, we have athletes as young as 6-7 years old that begin physical training in our programs. As the athlete grows and develops physically, the program changes to accommodate the needs of the individual. Our foundation begins with fundamental mechanics of movement and motor development, including running form, jumping technique, coordination and balance, and eye-hand/eye-foot coordinated skill drills. As the athlete continues to improve and master those skills, they are advanced to more intense training with greater physical demands. It is an amazing process to watch the evolution of an athlete over several years.

At Rockwood we understand the importance of injury prevention as one of the most important reasons for strength and conditioning training. There is no better method for reducing the risk of injury than the physical conditioning of the athlete. However, general fitness does not get the job done. Working hand-in-hand with our orthopedic and physical therapy providers, the Rockwood Sports Performance team has developed the most comprehensive, effective and safe method for training the athlete. He was also a consultant for the 1994 USA World Cup soccer team. Tommy has brought his extensive and diverse background to the Spokane area, and joined the Rockwood team in March of 2010. Vertimax

We utilize the Vertimax Jump Training System in order to increase our athlete's lower body reactive power. This is a great tool to add inches to your vertical and increase your power output and power endurance. As soon as you step off of this machine you will feel the difference!
